Daisy Shu (third from left) with new graduates
By Daisy Shu
Part 1 of our YO Bootcamp ‘Transitioning from student to clinician’ was held on 8 December.
This involved a talk from fellow Young Optometrist, Dr Jack Phu regarding AHPRA and Medicare registration. Andrew McKinnon from Optometry NSW/ACT provided the final-year students with a print-out of all the forms to be filled out, as well as some great tips for new graduates.
YO Executive member, Dr Daisy Shu spoke about what YO has to offer the new graduates: the networking opportunities, CPD events tailored for recent graduates and fun social events.
YO Executive member, Dr Rajeev Naidu and Nicole Smart from Optometry NSW/ACT helped with the barbecue that followed these talks.
Part 2 of the YO Bootcamp will be held on 21 February 2016. It involves a series of talks by YOs and is more relevant to clinical practice, with topics such as communication skills, time management, paediatrics, referral letter writing and Medicare billing.
YO congratulates all the new optometry graduates and wishes them all the best for this new chapter of their careers.
