The Optometry Board of Australia is urging optometry students to apply for registration online four to six weeks before they graduate.
The graduates need to be registered with the OBA and meet registration requirements before they can begin practising.
Students can apply on the AHPRA website but will need to send supporting documents within 30 days of completing their application online. Graduates can also apply for endorsement for scheduled medicines in the same online application.
Students will then be contacted by AHPRA about their registration after the governing body has confirmed they are eligible to practise.
Optometry Australia has a series of articles on its website to help final-year students prepare for practice. The articles include Medicare billing, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme and professional indemnity insurance.
More information can be found on the Optometry Board of Australia website.
