Wrap up - YOV's communication seminar
YOV’s communication seminar on 10 October was a terrific success! Thirty-three early career members attended the seminar, which was held at Optometry Victoria’s office in Carlton.
Guest speaker Sharyn Milnes from Deakin University, provided an overview of the research evidence confirming that effective communication saves time in consultations, and reduces the risk of disputes escalating.
YOV committee member Jason Tan then participated in a role play with professional actor Janet Watson Kruse. This provided participants with the opportunity to deconstruct the communication between ‘patient’ and ‘optometrist’, with the chance to offer suggestions and insights on how to improve the engagement.
Participants received 2 non-clinical CPD points for attending. Sharyn has kindly provided her presentation from the night for members to view.
Optometry Victoria and Young Optometrists Victoria would like to thank Sharyn and Janet for what was a practical and insightful seminar.
We’d also like to give an extra special thank you to Jason Tan who willingly put himself out there, to support the learning of others.
Finally we’d like to thank the Optometry Victoria members who took time out of their busy schedules to attend, and contribute to what was an interesting, practical and fun evening.
