Wrap Up
The most recent Young Optometrists Victoria (YOV) seminar 'Become your own boss - how to start your own optometry practice' was an outstanding success. In fact the seminar was so popular, we had to move it to a bigger venue at Medley Hall, to ensure that all members who wanted to attend were able to do so.
Fifty-six early career members attended the seminar on the night, and the feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive.
Key speakers Paul McKinley from Optometry Finance Australia and Peter Gandolfo and Christian Chenu from Partners Legal presented on key financial and legal considerations. They covered a range of topics, providing practical information on financing options, lease considerations, hand over periods, maximising good will, commonly used business structures and their pros and cons, as well as legal obligations assocaited with purchasing or leasing a business premises and employment obligations.
Paul and Peter and Christian's presentations are included below.

The hour long panel discussion and question and answer session with early career and experienced optometrists who own their own practices or franchises was very well received.
Panellists Denise Lee, Patrick Mac, Rowan Prendergast and Loan Vu provided a brief overview of their careers and current ownership arrangements, before being peppered with questions from the audience for the entire hour.
Participants received two non-clinical CPD points for attending.
